Bradley Abode Update 2: Modern Pantry Barn Door Build

WHOA. I haven’t chatted about any new updates with the abode in a while. So here we are fast forward 2 years later. (OOPS!) I wanted to share the epic pantry door we DIYed and created for our home. Our house didn’t have a pantry so it made it very hard to store food or any kitchen items. After a bit of planning, Pinteresting, and designing we came up with a plan alongside our brother-in-law (general contractor) to build our dream pantry & sliding modern barn door.

We had a completely blank wall so it was going to be a big process to construct a pantry wall, add shelves, build the door, and hang it. The modern barn door weighs SO much. I mean this thing is HEAVY. Constructing it and hanging it was no easy task. Now that our pantry is built, we are obsessed. It’s our favorite part of our house! We can’t wait to renovate more parts of our home in the future. Next up, the master bath & kitchen!

Check out the video below of the whole process!

The Process:

1.) The modern barn door build

We started out with Pinterest photos of Inso and then headed to Home Depot! My husband and our brother-in-law then went to work. They used one massive piece of plywood for the back of the door and many many perfectly cut wood slates nailed on top of the plywood to create the modern geometric look we wanted.

2.) Paint

We used flat black paint to paint the door with a spray painter. TIP: I would 100% invest in the paint sprayer. This made such an even finish without bubbles or imperfections.

3.) The Pantry Construction

This part took days and days. Since we had a blank slate to work with our brother-in-law had to literally create the pantry from scratch. My husband and brother-in-law got to work on constructing the wall and creating the drywall. Each drywall session lasted a couple of days because it needed to fully dry before we could paint and finish the construction of the wall. Once that was finished they added perfectly cut white shelves from home depot to create the pantry. Lastly, they hung the large modern barn door (carefully) and VOILA! We had a pantry!
